Nuku’alofa, TONGA- October 1, 2020: 12.30pm (NUKU’ALOFA TIMES): Tonga Rugby faces a dark future if nothing is done about plans that have been put in place by World Rugby.
Although a Tripate Agreement has been signed by World Rugby, Tonga Rugby Union and Government, the setting up of the Management Board and the selection of the Chief Executive Officer needs to be actioned now.
TRU president Siaosi Pohiva has finally signed the agreement after months of evasive tactics while self appointed Interim Chief Executive Officer Fe’ao Vunipola has now been blocked off by World Rugby for delaying tactics and not following directives, in relation to management of the TRU over the last five years.
World Rugby has not frozen all funds to the TRU and had discussed the possible suspension of all Tonga rugby teams from any international competition.
Tonga now stands to be pushed into the lower competition as well.
Inside sources have told the Nuku’alofa Times that unless actions are taken all local rugby players can lose their future in the game.
Sources have also confirmed that in the latest management ranking done by World Rugby Tonga has dropped to 99th spot, way behind small rugby countries like Brazil, Mexico and Vanuatu.
This is because the TRU has mismanaged everything rugby in Tonga.
