Nuku’alofa – January 28, 2021: 2.3pm (Nuku’alofa Times): Education Minister Siaosi Sovaleni is now the holder of the chiefly title of Hu’akavameiliku.
This follows the bestowment ceremony held at his Mataika residence yesterday by the Lord Vaea, representing His Majesty King Tau’faahau VI.
The title was last held by Mr. Sovaleni’s late father, Dr. Langi Kavaliku.
The chiefly title is for the village of Ha’asini and was originally give by the late King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV in 1969 to Hon Sovaleni’s late father.
Hon Sovaleni is the people’s representative for Tongatapu 3.
He had served as Minister for MEIDECC from 2015-2017 when he was axed by then Prime Minister, the late Samuela Pohiva.
He won re-election again and became Minister of Education under the new government led by Hon Dr Pohiva Tu’ionetoa.
Having worked in Tonga and in Fiji for government and the Pacific Communities, he returned home to continue as Chief Executive Officer for Public Enterprises before resigning to stand in the 2014 elections.
