Nuku’alofa – September 6, 2021: 1.25pm (Nuku’alofa Times): A total of 27,358 had received their full doses (two) of the COVID-19 Oxford Astra-Zeneca vaccine in Tonga by September 3, 2021, the Ministry of Health has confirmed.
In their weekly updates on the vaccination program in the Kingdom the Ministry’s media team says that means 43 percent of the target population of 63,128 (over 18-years-old) are now fully vaccinated.
But there are 1,386 people who are overdue (12 weeks) and need to take their second dose.
Since the vaccination started 43,150 had received their first dose.
Included in the list are 2,042 front-liners who have received their second dose (airport staff, fire service, HMAF, Ministry of Health, Police and seaport staff).
Tonga wants to fully vaccinate at least 70% of the population before opening borders again to approved countries.
Vaccination rollout was launched in Pangai, Ha’apai last week, with Health teams visiting outer islands in the group now to vaccinate members of the community.
The Ministry also confirmed that they currently have 53,819 doses remaining in stock.
