Nuku’alofa – September 16, 2021: 3.40pm (Nuku’alofa Times): Vava’u held on to a 21-16 lead at halftime and did just enough in the second half to record a 26-21 win over ‘Eua in a tough outer island clash in the Vahe Fonua Under-16 rugby tournament clash at Te’ufaiva Stadium here in Nuku’alofa this morning.
Organised by the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Sports Division, the tournament includes teams from all the islands in Tonga.
Today’s pool matches were to determine the qualifiers for the final matches on Saturday and the placings.
‘Eua and Vava’u both scored a try each in the second half, in an entertaining game.
In another interesting clash Niua was leading Ha’apai 12-7 at halftime. Updated scores after the game was Niua 29 and Ha’apai 21.
Tournament matches will round off on Saturday.
