Nuku’alofa – October 5, 2021: 1.45pm (Nuku’alofa Times): Tonga is amongst the top players in the world at the Expo 2020 in Dubai.

And the opportunity can help propel Tonga into the different world markets, especially in this time of COVID challenge.

With the Expo 2020 attracting millions of people already, Tonga stands to get alot of exposure at the event.

Team Tonga at the expo is led by Hon. ‘Akau’ola, the Tongan Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, and includes Deputy Commissioner General Sue ‘Akau’ola, Minister Counsellor Sonata Tupou, Pavilion Director Tele Faletau and Pavilion staff Florida Afeaki.

In an update sent to the Nuku’alofa Times the team said that the Tonga pavilion has been designed to take visitors on a digital journey through the islands of our Kingdom.

“Accompanied by a young Tongan boy Lafi, and his friend Lei, the humpback whale our mascots will introduce our four main island groups and surrounding ocean. Visitors will be trekking through the forests of Eua, main island Tongatapu where the capital Nuku‘alofa and the Royal palace presides, Ha’apai with the beautiful sandy beaches and scenic Vava’u islands.”

The theme of Tonga’s pavilion is “One Planet for us All”.

That highlights one of the most pressing environmental issues – plastic pollution and its impact on the people of the Pacific, their livelihoods as well as those of the world at large.

“We hope that all everyone visiting will reflect upon their choices, the harm that has been caused on the environment and leave us with a clearer understanding that we have One Planet for us All and we must take care of it,” the team said in their update.

“That’s why the entire nation celebrated when Dubai won the right to host Expo 2020. It’s no secret that the United Arab Emirates is always eager to make their presence at the international level, and with Expo 2020, they got the biggest opportunity to enhance their international reputation to the fullest. Expo 2020 is going to be bigger than ever, and organizers are expecting over 25 million visitors during its six months duration. The 7 billion dollars event will be held under the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” and three subthemes: Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability. It’s obviously not a simple thing to host the World Expo. The magnitude and scale of this global event are beyond anyone’s imagination, and Dubai will surely do everything to make it memorable forever.”

The Tongan pavilion is located in the Opportunity District.
“Our pavilion is near the Fondly referred to as the heart of Expo 2020 Dubai, Al Wasl Plaza. It is visual marvel for the visitor for its striking scale; it’s got a 130-metre-wide, 67.5-metre-tall dome that doubles as a 360-degree laser projection surface, making it the largest of its kind. The dome’s trellis design allows special projection screen material to be held tightly between its lattice structure. Two-hundred-and-fifty-two laser projectors work to splash images onto the surface of Al Wasl Plaza dome. What’s more is that these laser shows can be viewed from within the dome as well as from outside,” the team said.
