Nuku’alofa – November 22, 2021: 2.55pm (Nuku’alofa Times): The Law Week, currently being held in Tonga this week, is focused on promoting the ‘Social Media and Law’ theme to members of the community.
The Attorney General’s Office launched the Open Day of the ‘LAW WEEK’ at the Digicel Square in Nuku’alofa this morning.
The public were invited to the occasion attended by Guest of Honors, the Attorney General, Mrs Linda Folaumoetu’i and Hon Poasi Tei, the Minister for MEIDECC.
The theme for AGO Law Week 2021 is “SOCIAL MEDIA & THE LAW”.
Hon Tei said the objective of Ago Law Week 2021 is to inform the public of the legislation and regulations that is applicable to social media that address the use of any communication platform to abuse, harass or harm a person, especially on social media.
Television and Radio programs have been arranged by the Attorney General’s Office, Tonga Police and CERT Tonga, which will share information on the legislation and what it means.
Radio programs will be aired on 87.5FM and 88.6FM.
A special play was performed by the Fili Tonu group showing the consequences that we will get on abusing others on social media.
Mrs Folaumoetu’I thanked all those who turned up at the launch.
Prisons’ chaplain Rev Semisi Kava blessed the event.
