Nuku’alofa – June 11, 2022: 6.20pm (Nuku’alofa Times): Government has confirmed this evening the passing of the late Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Food, Hon Viliami Manuopangai Hingano.
The late Mr Hingano, who was previously Governor of Ha’apai beofre his appointment as a Cabinet Minister, passed away on Friday, June 10 in Auckland.
He was appointed as the Government of Tonga’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, on December 28, 2021 after he had claimed his seat from Ha’apai.
In a statement sent to the media this afternoon, Prime Minister Hon Hu’akavameiliku said he “extends his deepest sympathies and heartfelt
condolences on behalf of His Majesty’s Government, to the late Cabinet minister’s family. May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, be with the family during this difficult time. His passing is of immense loss to the Country and to the Nation”.
Government will announce details of funeral arrangements soon.
The late Mr Hingano had gone to New Zealand for medical treatment soon after he was appointed a Cabinet Minister and was likely to lose his seat in Parliament because he had gone over the period allowed for MPs to be away overseas.
